Wheeler, North Face (and Meshuggeneh)

The North Face of Wheeler has a pretty gnarly line down its center. A good name for this would be Wheeler Dealer. But has it ever been skied? Climbing Wheeler is not so easy.

In late May, 2007, Aaron Parmet and friends cramponed up this face and skied it, reporting that it was very steep. Aaron suggests the name Inquisition. Aaron and friends also skied a truly extreme line ("Meshuggeneh") on the SW side of the peak NW along the ridge from Wheeler. The face looks like it cliffs out unless you are on top of Wheeler, in which case you can see the skiable exit. See <http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86995>. Other potential names here: "Seder Chute" for the exit chute on Meshuggeneh.

Here is a photo by Aaron Parmet showing his line. The couloir to looker's left has also been snowboarded. The face in the rear is the N Face of Democrat.

And here is a shot by Aaron Parmet of his partner skiing down Wheeler, with a photo of the unnamed peak to the NW. Aaron, Andy Dimmen, and Dave Bourassa later skied this line, which is called Meshuggeneh (Yiddish/Hebrew for "Crazy"). The exit gully (down and to the left at the bottom of the face) is invisible from the valley, from which vantage the face looks unskiable.
