Coon Hill, SE Face

Coon Hill (12757'), which is very prominent from Frisco, has very easy access from the pulloff on the W side of the tunnel and so it gets skied a lot. Start hiking uphill immediately to a bit of a bench, then keep on to reach the saddle between the summit and the southern sub-summit. On descent from the summit keep to the right after the first 500 feet for an efficient route back to the car. I suspect there is fine skiing down the N side as well. In winter one can start here and continue along the entire ridge back to Ptarmigan Peak and Silverthorne. Here is a shot of Todd Beck just below the summit on June 4, 2008.
