Skiing near Jones Pass (Peter Crisci, February)

Jones Pass, near Berthoud Pass, is an easy access playground of steep open terrain. Winter conditions vary from boilerplate to fluffy powder. There have been avalanche fatalities in this area, so be aware. In March 2000, Katie Larson, Byron Lemay, and I completed a memorable long tour that started in this area, traversed the Continental Divide north all the way to Darling Creek, and descended that creek to the Sugarloaf Campground on the Williams Fork River, arriving at dark. The photo shows Peter Crisci (Massachusetts) enjoying favorable conditions. This slope is a little south of Jones Pass (the power lines at top will help you find it).
