Head of the Rocks
The area to the west of Route 12, just south of the Escalante River crossing, contains some very large areas Navajo sandstone: it is known as Head of the Rocks. One can easily hike around and on top of these domes, as we did on a snowy morning. I was surprised to see some large Ponderosa pines here.
