Day Two: Jan 27
Things went pretty well today, with no real problems. We removed many large chunks of snow and the curvy shape we seek has started to appear. After a great dinner at a local restaurant, we knocked it off for the day, since we think we are on schedule. We are using more spray paint than anyone else, and the colors make our sculpture look interesting; there can be no color in the finished work though. One concern is how we will work the very top of the piece since it is not easy to get up there and there is no place to stand. We'll find out. The sun was not a factor today and that was great. The Chinese team has the block beside us: they did not sculpt on the first day, having had travel problems, and there are only two of them (as opposed to four for other teams). But they are very experienced, with very good tools, and their theme of a reindeer herdsman quickly emerged. There are 11 teams in total, which I think is an all-time low for this event. The countries represented are: Mexico, Czech Republic, Lithuania, China, Canada, and USA.
